+ Some assembly members in the Shama District Assembly of the Western Region have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to retain Mr Joseph Amoah as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the district. The assembly members, some of whom have worked with different DCEs, maintained that Mr Amoah had an unparalleled credibility and deserved to be given another opportunity to serve the people of the district.. Addressing a press conference at Shama, Assembly Member for Supomu- Dunkwaw, Mr Alpha Wankye, explained that they were motivated by the sterling performance of Mr Amoah during his tenure.. The Shama District Assembly is to set up a quarry development fund to enable the Assembly and affected communities have some good benefits from its extraction. The District, which has more than 10 quarry factories exploiting the granite resources was also yet to regularize most of the activities of these explorers. The fund, would therefore help to do more in terms of social amenities for affected communities and improve upon operational efficiency and relationship with communities. At the first inception meeting with Assembly members, chiefs and the Assembly to introduce the new intervention, Mr. Richard Blevi, the Coordinating Director stressed the need to well manage all the natural resources in the area for the needed benefits. ....
Minerals Commission to prosecute 15 persons for defying clay mining ban LISTEN FEB 4, 2021 The Mining Taskforce of the Minerals Commission with support from the Shama District Assembly will this week commence its first prosecution of persons arrested for defying the ban on clay mining in the Shama District of the Western Region. The ban instituted on January 19, 2021, follows the continuing devastation to the environment caused by illegal clay miners in the district for the past three years. It is also to pave way for miners to acquire proper certification as well as operate with standards. Speaking to Citi News in Shama, Bismark Ekuam, an Assistant Officer for Mining Duties at the Minerals Commission who led the arrest at Supom-Dunkwa said 15 illegal clay miners were arrested during its routine site mine visits. ....
