Independent Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Jie (黃捷) yesterday weathered a recall vote to retain her councilor seat in Fongshan District (鳳山).
Kaohsiung City Election Commission data showed that 65,391 people voted against recalling her, while 55,261 voted in favor.
The voter turnout was 41.54 percent, the data showed.

Taipei, Feb. 6 (CNA) A vote to recall independent Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Jie (黃捷) failed on Saturday, falling short of the two legal thresholds, according to the city s Election Commission.
The final results of the election in the Kaohsiung City district of Fongshan showed 65,391 votes (54.2 percent) against the recall and 55,261 votes (45.8 percent) in favor of it, with a 41.54 percent turnout, the commission said. ....

Taipei, Feb. 6 (CNA) A vote to recall independent Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Jie (黃捷) failed on Saturday, falling short of the two legal thresholds, according to the city s Election Commission.
The final results of the election in the Kaohsiung City district of Fongshan showed 65,391 votes (54.2 percent) against the recall and 55,261 votes (45.8 percent) in favor of it, with a 41.54 percent turnout, the commission said.
Under Taiwan law, for a recall vote to pass, at least 25 percent of eligible voters or 72,892 in Huang s case must vote in favor of it, and they must outnumber those who vote against it. ....

Organizers of a campaign to recall independent Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Jie (黃捷) yesterday held a parade to drum up support ahead of the vote next month.
Campaign spokesperson Hsu Shang-hsien (徐尚賢) urged Fongshan District (鳳山) residents to vote to recall Huang on Feb. 6, to “teach the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) a lesson.”
Wecare Kaohsiung founder Aaron Yin (尹立), who in June last year initiated an effort to recall then-Kaohsiung mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT), said the campaign to recall Huang was an effort to seek revenge for Han’s removal. ....
