ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Wednesday said that the issue of Palestine was the oldest and most unresolved issue in the Middle East, which has caused massive destruction so far while the barbarities unleashed by Israel were in negation of any law.
“Due to this, the situation in the entire Middle East is tense. The situation in recent days is extremely deplorable as hundreds of innocent Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed and scores injured in Israeli shelling and violence,” he said.
Speaking at a webinar on Palestinian-Israeli issue organised by an NGO, he said that such aggression was reprehensible and now a peaceful solution to this problem had become imperative. He added that innocent civilians have been subjected to cruelty and barbarism in Al Aqsa Mosque.

THAILAND: Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has put the brakes on walk-in services for COVID-19 vaccinations to prevent people flocking to the inoculation sites and becoming upset if they fail to secure a jab, a government source said.

During a cabinet meeting held via videoconference, Gen Prayut said he disagreed with vaccination walk-ins because people would turn up in droves causing chaos at the selected locations, particularly in Bangkok which has a large population, the source said.

BRUSSELS: The European Union took steps on Wednesday to guard against economic competition from China that it deems unfair, a sign of growing distrust after Western sanctions over rights abuses and Chinese retaliation. The bloc s executive arm, the European Commission, unveiled plans to cut dependency on Chinese and other foreign suppliers in six strategic areas, and to limit the ability of companies supported by foreign subsidies to buy EU businesses or take part in public tenders.
EU competition chief Margrethe Vestager told a news conference there have been rules controlling state aid from European governments for 60 years, but none to stop foreign subsidies being used to buy up firms inside the 27-nation bloc.
