Wednesday, June 2, 2021 New phone service provider requested, approved Board members for Barry-Lawrence County Ambulance District recently decided against pursuing a new position of SWAT medic. Frank Foster, emergency services attorney, weighed in with his thoughts on a SWAT medic at the district. The program requires special certifications and training, he wrote in response to the districts query concerning its responsibilities in providing personnel to the SWAT team. I do not think one volunteer is enough for the program. In addition, special arrangements would have to be made for securing and qualifying with firearms, and the district purchase the firearms. Buying weapons, storing weapons and special protective gear, plus being on the districts time and additional training, this becomes quite a budgetary issue. ....

Country Concerts and Festivals Are Back in Lake Charles After over a year of quarantine, social distancing, and having nothing to do, concerts and festivals are back in Southwest Louisiana. Starting at the end of this month, you will be able to get back out there to see concerts and attend festivals again. Memorial Day weekend, Mark Chesnutt will be in Lake Charles on May 28. In June, Country artists Travis Tritt and Gary Allan will be in Lake Charles. Then, Hank Williams Jr., Ashley McBryde, Neal McCoy, and Stoney Larue will all be in the area. Get ready for some great festivals coming your way, too. Some are new festivals that have never taken place before, while some of your old favorites are coming back. ....
Cowboys Country Fest Announces Entertainment Lineup Yesterday, Gator 99.5 s Mike Soileau and Your Buddy Russ attended the big press conference at McNeese State University s athletics department as they announced the lineup for a huge festival coming to Lake Charles. The Cowboys Country Fest is coming on Saturday, July 3 and will take place inside the McNeese football stadium. Matt Bonnette, Athletic Director Heath Schroyer, and the McNeese Athletics Foundation Executive Director Clerc Bertrand announced the athletics foundation was formed to enhance student and community engagement, while the concert is focused on hurricane relief. We all know our area is still in desperate need of hurricane relief and support even eight months after the storms. Who is playing?
