新法を可決した全国人民代表大会（全人代＝国会）常務委員会の副委員長１４人全員が昨年、国家安全維持法（国安法）を可決したことで米国の制裁を受けている。国安法は、香港の政治的自由を損なったとして批判されている法律だ。
このほか、米国は１月に新疆ウイグル自治区での人権侵害と強制労働を理由に、同地区からの綿花とトマトの輸入を禁止した。
中国人民大学の国際学准教授、Cheng Xiaohe氏は「新法は『にんじんと棍棒』外交の棍棒に当たる。しかし攻撃的ではなく防御的な性質であり、他国が先にわが国に制裁を加えてきた場合にのみ使われる」と語った。

Saudi Arabia bars foreign travelers from Haj

Saudi Arabia has restricted the annual Haj pilgrimage to citizens and residents and set a maximum of 60,000 pilgrims in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the state Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.Only people aged between 18 and 65 who have been vaccinated will be able to take part, the ministry that manages the pilgrimage said in a statement. ....
