As “Satanic panic” over the feared rise of Satanic cult worship captivated the United States, the gruesome murders of three young women in the Fall River area, Doreen Levesque, Barbara Ann Raposa and Karen Marsden brought the issue to the city’s front door. Fall River Repeat Car Thief Sentenced to Prison FALL RIVER A 26-year-old Fall River man who was involved in the theft of eight motor vehicles and the attempted theft of three others was convicted of a litany of crimes recently and sentenced to serve five years in state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced. Alexander Amaral pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court earlier this month to indictments charging him with eight counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, four counts of breaking and entering into a vehicle during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony, two counts of larceny over $1,200, and one count each of breaking and entering into a building with intentions to commit a felony and larceny from a building. ....
FALL RIVER With the help of federal COVID-19 funding, the city is taking a new approach to combat homelessness: reaching out to the homeless and bringing them to the services they need. “In years past, we had all these homeless people and we didn’t know how to get right to them. We waited until after they asked for help. Now, we go to them and tell them we are here for you if you need us,” said Niki Fontaine, who along with her partner, Marc Pires, are the two new full-time homeless outreach workers hired by the city’s Community Development Agency. ....
