New Delhi [India], January 25 (ANI): Galwan valley clash hero Col Santosh Babu has been awarded the second-highest wartime gallantry medal - the Mahavir Chakra on this Republic Day for his gallantry in the clash with Chinese soldiers in which he lost his life on June 15 last year.
Other Army personnel including Nb Sub Nuduram Soren, Hav K Palan, Nk Deepak Singh Sep Gurtej Singh who lost their lives in the Galwan valley clash have been awarded Chakra series wartime gallantry medals posthumously.
Havaldar Tejinder Singh has also been awarded the Vir Chakra for Galwan Valley operations. ....

War time gallantry awards for Army personnel at Galwan.
Colonel B. Santhosh Babu, Commanding Officer of 16 Bihar deployed in Galwan during Operation Snow Leopard and lost his life along with 19 others in the violent clash with Chinese troops in June, has been posthumously awarded Maha Vir Chakra (MVC), the second highest war time gallantry award. Five other personnel deployed there have been awarded Vir Chakra (VrC) four of them posthumously the third highest war time gallantry award.
Hav. Tejinder Singh from 2 Medium Regiment has been awarded Vir Chakra along with four awards posthumously Nb Sub Nuduram Soren and Nk Deepak Singh from 16 Bihar, Hav. K Palani from 81 Field regiment and Sep. Gurtej Singh from 3 Punjab. In addition, the President has also awarded one Kirti Chakra posthumously and three Shaurya Chakras of which one is posthumous. ....

CHENNAI: Lieutenant General A Arun took charge as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Dakshin Bharat area on Saturday. He was director general, strategic planning at the Army Headquarters.
Arun joined the National Defence Academy in January 1982, despite having secured an All India Rank of 13 in JEE. He was commissioned into 8 Grenadiers on December 14, 1985. He is also a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Tamil Nadu), Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies, Canberra (Australia), and National Defence College, New Delhi.
In 35 years of service, he has fulfilled diverse and challenging roles including commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Pulwama (J&K), commanding of Rashtriya Rifles sector in Handwara and a mountain division in North East India. Seriously wounded in operations in Jammu and Kashmir, the General is a recipient of the Sena Medal for gallantry, Yudh Seva Medal for outstanding leadership in conflict ....
