A WOMAN S actions in driving dangerously while more than four times the legal alcohol limit could have had much more serious consequences, a sheriff told her this week.
The driver, Karyn Fraser, who hit a pedestrian and a car, was banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to carry out 75 hours of unpaid community work when she appeared for sentence at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday. ....

A man has appeared in court after police found cannabis in a van at a Highland ferry terminal.
The 1kg of cannabis, valued at between £10,000 and £15,000, was discovered at Gills Bay Ferry Terminal in Cannisbay on Tuesday.
The searches were carried out as part of Operation Ruling, which aims to tackle various issues affecting the Caithness area.
James Holman, 54, appeared at Wick Sheriff Court today in connection with the incident. ....

1kg of cannabis – worth up to £15k – seized in search at Gills Bay as part of Caithness police's Operation Ruling


One kilogram of cannabis has been recovered from a van at a Caithness ferry terminal.
Police said that local officers, supported by colleagues from Border Policing Command, carried out searches at Gills Bay.
After making inquiries, they searched a vehicle. Police said that one kilogram of cannabis – with a value of between £10,000 and £15,000 – was recovered from inside.
A 54-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
He made a first appearance at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday, December 16.
The search came as part of the ongoing Operation Ruling activity taking place across Caithness. ....

A man has been charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after a haul of cannabis was discovered in a van at a Caithness ferry terminal.
Yesterday, Tuesday, locally based police officers were supported by colleagues from Border Policing Command as they carried out searches at the Gills Bay Ferry Terminal, as police continued with Operation Ruling enforcement activity in Caithness.
During this time, police say that they made inquiries with the driver of a Mercedes Veto Transporter van, and then carried out a search of the vehicle.
As a result, one kilogram of cannabis was recovered from inside, valued between £10,000 and £15,000. ....
