Grab your popcorn – two Northern Rivers towns have been singled out for an exclusive travelling film festival.
Lismore and Murwillumbah are the newest destinations for Sydney Film Festival’s Travelling Film Festival, a major movie offering bringing Australian and international features, short films, and documentaries to regional NSW.
Minster for the Arts Don Harwin said the Travelling Film Festival would be a massive economic boost for local movie theatres following the past year of pandemic uncertainty.
“Local cinemas are the beating heart of our regional communities, and after a tough year where many of us missed our friends, community and culture, people are keen to come back together to enjoy a night out experiencing storytelling at its best,” Mr Harwin said. ....

Woman caught driving over six times legal alcohol limit in Warrawong

A woman has been charged with high-range drink driving after allegedly being caught more than six times the legal limit in Warrawong yesterday. 
Police say the Mazda 2 was travelling along First Avenue just after 10am, when it allegedly mounted the kerb and drove along the footpath, before hitting a tree.
Officers from the Southern Region Enforcement Squad attended a short time later and spoke with the driver, a 66-year-old woman.
She was subject to a roadside breath test which allegedly returned a positive result.
The woman was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station for a breath analysis, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.306. ....

Exclusive: A Queensland nursing home has been declared an immediate and severe risk to residents after a surprise swoop by government inspectors.
An investigation by News Corp Australia can reveal that 26 Australian aged care homes have current sanctions or compliance orders imposed by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC), after unannounced audits.
In Queensland, the ACQSC found an immediate and severe risk to residents at the Southport Lodge nursing home on the Gold Coast.
A new audit report, released only this week, reveals ACQSC slapped a sanction on the home last month, banning it from receiving taxpayer subsidies for any new residents for six months. ....
