This summer, the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas is partnering with the Arkansas No Kid Hungry Campaign and local organizations to help ensure that children have access to free meals. More than 300,000 kids in Arkansas receive free or reduced-price school meals, but during the summer months many of those kids are at risk of not getting nutritious meals. Food bank CEO Jeff Quick says that the summer meals program fills a vital need for children across north central Arkansas. Quick says, “One in three children across our region struggle with access to healthy foods throughout the year, but have an even more limited access to food in the summer when school breakfast, lunch and backpack programs are not available. The Food Bank is pleased to serve as a sponsor for seven summer meal sites this summer, building on out success last year where we were able to provide approximately 15,000 meals to children.” ....

Humane Society of North Central Arkansas receives $5K grant HUMANE SOCIETY OF NORTH CENTRAL ARKANSAS The Humane Society of North Central Arkansas of Baxter County was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation to support its efforts of helping spay/neuter the personal pets of low-income community members. The investment will help community animals receive spay/neuter vouchers. The investment will also help to reduce the number of pets being born in the area. “This grant is very important to the pets in the community,” said Carolyn Carter, shelter manager at the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas. “The support of the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation allows the Humane Society to continue their life-saving work of making a difference in the lives of the animals and preventing unwanted, unintended litters from being born.” ....
The natural gas storage report from the EIA for the week ending April 30th indicated that the amount of natural gas held in underground storage in the US rose by 60 billion cubic feet to 1,958 billion cubic feet by the end of the week, which left our gas supplies 345 billion cubic feet, or 15.0% below the 2,303 billion cubic feet that were in storage on April 30th of last year, and 61 billion cubic feet, or 3.0% below the five-year average of 2,019 billion cubic feet of natural gas that have been in storage as of the 30th of April in recent years..the 60 billion cubic feet that were added to US natural gas storage this week was more than the average forecast of a 51 billion cubic foot addition from an S&P Global Platts survey of analysts, but was well below the average addition of 81 billion cubic feet of natural gas that have typically been injected into natural gas storage during the same week over the past 5 years, as well as well below the 103 billion cubic feet added to natur ....

After recent samples, Game and Fish officials believe walleye fishing on Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes should remain good for more years to come. According to Game and Fish, mature walleye in the reservoirs spawn in one of two ways. Some walleye swim up the large tributaries, and others spawn on main lake points or gravel flats Game and Fish staff target the main lake spawning walleye population at Bull Shoals and Norfork dams when the water surface temperature is anywhere between 52 and 55 degrees. Electrofishing sampling efforts have been conducted since 2003, and it allows staff to monitor changes in abundance and size of spawning walleye over time. ....
