LESOTHO’S senior national men’s soccer team coach Thabo Senong is looking forward to his first COSAFA tournament after last year’s edition of the regional tournament was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Pimville born coach, who was appointed Lesotho coach in 2019, has enjoyed a lot of success coaching in the COSAFA tournaments having won four titles during his time working for the South African Football Association. Senong led South Africa’s Amajita to back-to-back Under-20 Championships in 2017 and 2018 respectively and was also the assistant coach to Shakes Mashaba when Bafana Bafana were crowned COSAFA Cup champions in Namibia in 2016. ....
Prof. Chitja Twala The network of safe houses in exile and the hosts remain significant in South Africa’s freedom celebration. This is according to Prof. Chitja Twala of the History Department at the University of the Free State (UFS). Twala noted this against the backdrop of South Africa observing Freedom Day on 27 April. The network housed freedom fighters who left South Africa as they were targeted by the apartheid regime forces. The safe houses were set up in countries like Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique and Swaziland. “After the apartheid regime banned liberation organisations such as the ANC, the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) and others in the 1960s, these movements established networks of safe houses inside and outside the country,” Twala explained. ....
Premier league teams petition PLMC Premier league teams petition PLMC Moorosi Tsiane TEN Premier League teams have petitioned the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) to address their grievances before the resumption of league games on 15 May 2021. The PLMC met on Wednesday and concluded that league matches must resume on 15 May, thereby giving teams two weeks to prepare. The PLMC informed the teams that the league will resume in a fortnight starting with the catch-up tie between Lifofane and Lioli on 12 May. However, teams are lamenting that the time they have been given to prepare is inadequate. They also want the PLMC to pronounce itself on its plans for the league calendar for the duration of the upcoming COSAFA Cup. Some of the teams are also complaining that they use students who may not always be available for some of the congested matches because of their academic commitments. ....
Harambee targets signing 200 artistes Harambee targets signing 200 artistes Share Staff Reporter ARTS management and promotions company Harambee Global Records is targeting to sign at least 200 artistes by the end of 2021. The signing of the artistes will see the company utilising the M4 million investment that has been channelled towards a state-of-the-art visual and audio studio. Harambee founder, chief executive officer and chairperson, Masitise Seleso told the Weekender, in Maseru this week that his company has seen it fit to invest in the arts sector as a way of contributing to the country’s GDP through youth empowerment. The music and visual recording studio, that nearing completion, is housed at the company’s premises in the Stadium Area in Maseru and is primarily accessible to all artistes signed to Harambee as well as others from different music stables. ....
Mapesela forms own party Mohloboli MOKHOTLONG legislator Tefo Mapesela, who recently dumped the ruling All Basotho Convention (ABC), has formed his own party called the Basotho Patriotic Party (BPP). News of the formation of the new party was announced this week in parliament by the deputy speaker of parliament, Lebohang Ramohlanka. Mr Mapesela crossed the floor to the opposition benches immediately after Ms Ramohlanka announced that he had formed a new party and notified the house of his intention to cross from the government side.
