Religious scholar injured in Orangi Town gun attack Karachi April 1, 2021 A religious cleric was wounded in a gun attack in Orangi Town on Wednesday. Scholar Mufti Saleemullah Khan, 40, son of Pasand Khan, the head of the Salim Academy in MPR Colony, was shot and injured on Manghopir Road. Police said two suspects riding a motorcycle opened fire at a white-coloured Toyota Corolla car, in which Khan, his wife, children and other relatives riding. The scholar was injured and immediately taken to a private hospital in North Nazimabad. Luckily, his family members escaped unhurt. West Zone DIG Asim Qaimkhani told media persons that Mufti Saleemullah was shot twice, in his abdomen and back. According to a witness, the car stopped after the firing incident. “I broke the window of the car, pulled out the injured person from a car and told him that he had suffered bullet injuries,” the witness said. ....

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the killing of a Sindh University student in an alleged encounter in Sukkur after the incident sparked outrage on social media and opposition parties in the provincial assembly demanded a judicial inquiry. Mohammed Irfan Jatoi was shot dead in a suspected encounter in Sukkur on Sunday. The police alleged that he was a “notorious dacoit” wanted in connection with several crimes. However, his friends and social media activists rejected the police claim and said that he was taken away by the law enforcers from SU on Feb 10 and they killed him in their custody after almost a month. ....

Karachi March 3, 2021 The second largest adult vaccination centre (AVC) of Karachi for Covid-19 vaccination has started functioning at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH), where frontline healthcare workers are being inoculated, but in the coming days, the public would also be vaccinated against the infectious disease, Sindh health department and LNH officials said on Tuesday. “The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) had approached us to ascertain if we are willing to establish an adult vaccination centre at Liaquat National Hospital. We said it is a national cause and we are more than happy to offer our services. So, today, an adult vaccination centre at the LNH has started functioning, for which the Covid-19 vaccine is being provided by the government,” Dr Salman Faridi, medical director of the LNH, told The News. ....
