It’s funny that Republican Congressman Lloyd Smucker is claiming people who get government aid become dependent on such help and a burden to the rest of Americans.
What’s funnier, in my view, is the inability of Smucker to see his own situation. He is dependent on the government.
He receives a paycheck and a load of benefits from the government for his seeming job of keeping business taxes low — so that when he leaves office, he might have a job that pays a lot more waiting for him at a company that benefited from the legislation he supported. ....

Rep. Steel joins top Ways and Means Republicans to act against unchecked unemployment fraud


Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA) joined top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX), alongside House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Republican Leader of the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) and 13 other Ways and Means Republicans, to introduce the 
Combatting COVID Unemployment Fraud Act of 2021 (H.R. 3268).
The bill will prevent fraud in COVID unemployment programs, recover fraudulently paid benefits, and provide relief for taxpayers and victims of unemployment fraud. In February, Rep. Steel and Rep. McCarthy led the Republican California delegation in a letter to the Newsom Administration expressing outrage regarding the $11.4 billion in fraudulent COVID-related unemployment assistance payments made by the State of California. The California Employment Development Department (EDD) confirmed that it has paid billions in fraudulent unemployment claims, mostly through the new Pandemic Unemployment Aid ....

Lancaster Airport is the busiest in years thanks to corporate jets


A little more than a year after Lancaster Airport officials had to send most of their employees home due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the runways in Manheim Township are the busiest they ve been in years.
Through the first three months of this year, the airport saw 20,342 departures and landings, according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration; the most in that period since 2012.
It’s the latest sign that Lancaster Airport’s efforts to remake itself as a destination for corporate and chartered jet services are paying off after a difficult year for air travel.
In June, officials plan to unveil a new VIP-style lounge area for corporate clients, according to Airport Authority Chairman Jim Cunningham. ....
