Excellence Concert Series Welcomes CJ Drisdom
If you ve got the double-mask blues, and are still looking for a way to safely find some entertainment this weekend while
also celebrating Black History Month, Excellence in the Community has got you covered. Throughout the pandemic, the locals-focused community music event has adapted what were once live, in-person performances for the Gallivan Center Stage to a live-streamed event series instead, which takes place at the Gallivan Center. Each concert is free, and this month, the emphasis of each show has been on some of Utah s notable Black performers, including Bri Ray and the Junction City Blues Band. Wet and windy Christmas forecast; flooding, power outages possible

KINGSTON, N.Y.Â â Heavy rains and high winds could cause flooding and power outages in the region beginning Thursday and continuing into Christmas Day, forecasters say.
The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a flood watch and a wind advisory for much of the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills. The agency said heavy rain falling on a deep snowpack will lead to significant melting, which could result in flooding.
The snowmelt combined with one to three inches of rain, with locally higher amounts of up to six inches in the eastern Catskills, could cause urban flash flooding, the watch states. Flows in rivers may increase quickly with some rising above flood stage on Friday. Â ....

Strong winds may knock out Central Hudson customer s electricity on Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24 and Christmas, Friday, Dec. 25, according to the utility company.
“We know reliable electrical service is vital to our customers, especially during the Christmas holiday and at a time when we’re also navigating the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ryan Hawthorne, Assistant Vice President of Electric Engineering and Operations at Central Hudson.
“Our employees are prepared to work through the holiday, we have secured additional line crews and we are maintaining regular contact with local emergency responders. If outages occur, we will be ready to address them as efficiently and safely as possible.” ....

EPRI and Industry Will Use New Grant to Help New York State Reach Zero-Emission Electricity by 2040

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), along with Schneider Electric, General Electric, and Smarter Grid Solutions, received a $2.2 million award to develop a distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) to mitigate potential issues caused by integrating distributed energy resources (DER) with the electric grid.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) awarded the funding through its Smart Grid Innovation program, as part of New York State s overall strategy to achieve Governor Cuomo s goal of a zero emission electricity sector by 2040. The project includes a pilot program deployed with Central Hudson Gas & Electric to develop and demonstrate a scalable system that enables a large quantity of DER to be integrated into transmission and distribution systems. ....
