The former presidential candidate met with local Democrats, transit workers, and a West Brighton business owner as he shared what Staten Island’s future would look like in a Yang mayoral administration.
A central part of that future and a focus of Yang’s tour was the borough’s transit system, and an eight-point plan he would suggest to improve it.
“I want to see if we can improve mass transit for the folks on Staten Island,” Yang said Friday. “I talked to a group of Staten Islanders just the other day and they had issues with the city’s what they consider relative neglect of the mass transit system on Staten Island, so I wanted to see it for myself.”

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. After St. John’s University announced its commencement ceremonies would be virtual for the Class of 2021 amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, two seniors from the Staten Island campus on Grymes Hill have started a petition for an in-person graduation.
Seniors Leanna Rivera and Evan Didia began the Change.org petition Thursday evening, which has nearly 1,800 signatures as of Monday afternoon, urging St. John’s to host in-person commencement ceremonies for Staten Island students due to the small class size.
