Justice N V Ramana appointed as next CJI, to assume charge on April 24


Senior-most Supreme Court judge Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana was on Tuesday appointed as the next Chief Justice of India.
According to a notification issued by the government, Justice Ramana would take over as the 48th CJI on April 24 after incumbent CJI S A Bobde demits office a day before.
Justice Ramana would retire on August 26, 2022.
In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, Judge of the Supreme Court, to be the Chief Justice of India with effect from 24th April, 2021, the notification read. ....

Police busy in implementing people-friendly policies

Islamabad : The police have been busy implementing the people-friendly policies sought by the Inspector-General (Islamabad) Police Qazi Jamilur Rehman.
SP (Sadar Zone) Hamza Humayun along with DSP (Ramana Circle) Khalid Mahmood Awan visited the F-8 Church here and met with the bishop of the church. They delivered a message of IG Islamabad Qazi Jamil ur Rehman and DIG (Operations) Afzaal Ahmad Kausar to the bishop and congratulated the Christian community on the occasion of Easter.
The visiting officers assured the Christian community of their full support in ensuring the safety of life and property. They said that the police were busy helping the community without any discrimination. The Bishop appreciated the wishes expressed by the police high-ups and thanked them for the kind gesture. P Venkat Rao, 46, a resident of Dantelaboru village in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana, started cotton farming after Class XII. The work was fraught with challenges. The yield was poor. The crop would get infected every now and then. The income was just enough to pay for basic needs of his family. His life changed when he saw a neighbour, Ramana, turn his cotton farm into a eucalyptus plantation and supply to ITC. In 2005, he did likewise, with ITC supporting him with knowledge of eucalyptus farming, soil testing and fast-growing clonal saplings. When he harvested the crop four years later, he earned Rs 3 lakh. The second harvest, in 2013, got him Rs 18 lakh. There has been no looking back after that. I own five tractors that I give on rent, he says. His income is now Rs 7,000 a day, from Rs 500 a day in 2005. He works with ITC as part of the company s forestry programme which helps marginal farmers grow eucalyptus that is used to make high ....
