Taipei, Jan. 20 (CNA) Taitung County on Taiwan s east coast tops the 2021 list of the most welcoming regions in the world by online hotel reservation website Booking.com in its annual Traveller Review Awards.
Travelers will be amazed by the richness of the diverse ethnic culture the region has to offer, according to a Tuesday press release by Booking.com.
Multiple indigenous peoples who have settled in the region are worth visiting when traveling to the region, as they are known for their long-lasting traditions and rituals that contribute to the area s diversity, the press release said. ....

Taipei, Jan. 20 (CNA) Although the vast majority of Taiwanese adults know what hangovers are, at least 50 percent hold misconceptions about what causes them and how they work, according to a new poll by the Taiwan Beverage Alcohol Forum (TBAF).
The TBAF presented the survey s results at a press conference with Transportation and Communications Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on Wednesday, hoping to raise alcohol awareness ahead of next month s Lunar New Year holiday.
The survey found that while 89.5 percent of respondents knew what hangovers were, more than 50 percent held at least one of several misconceptions about them. ....

Taiwan carriers postpone 'flights to nowhere' over COVID concerns

Taipei, Jan. 20 (CNA) Taiwan s two major airlines on Wednesday postponed or cancelled their air tour packages, including a Boeing 747-400 farewell flight by China Airlines, after the 10th COVID-19 case in a domestic cluster was reported.
Following health authorities advice to adhere to COVID-19 prevention regulations, China Airlines (CAL) announced the postponement of its Farewell Party for the Queen of the Sky and other tour packages, until further notice.
The farewell tour on Feb. 6 was supposed to be the final commercial flight of CAL s B-18215 Boeing 747-400 jet, a model that has been discontinued by Boeing.
CAL has also cancelled two similar packages scheduled for Feb. 13, one taking passengers from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on a tour over Japan then landing at Kaohsiung International Airport, and the other from Kaohsiung to Taoyuan. ....

Taipei, Jan. 14 (CNA) Kaohsiung and Taipei are scheduled to host the official Taiwan Lantern Festival in 2022 and in 2023, respectively, the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced Thursday.
This year s main exhibition will take place in Hsinchu.
For the 2022 festival in Kaohsiung, the main lantern exhibition is slated to take place at the Asia New Bay Area, a waterfront district that the city government aims to turn into a base for the world s emerging technologies, the bureau said in a statement. ....

1,400 quarantine hotel rooms to be made available from Jan. 14

Taipei, Jan. 12 (CNA) Taiwan will start providing a further 1,400 hotel rooms for temporary quarantine purposes from Thursday to meet increasing demand for quarantine accommodation for overseas arrivals as the Lunar New Year holiday in February draws near, the Tourism Bureau said Tuesday.
From Jan. 14-Feb. 11, the 1,400 hotel rooms in 16 cities and counties other than Yilan, Hualien and Taitung and the offshore Kinmen, Penghu and Lienchiang counties will be available, the bureau said.
The strong demand can also be attributed to the Central Epidemic Command Center s stricter quarantine rules that will come into effect on Jan. 15, requiring people arriving to Taiwan from overseas to have an ensuite bathroom in which to spend their quarantine, according to the bureau. ....
