The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Christopher Kasean Jackson, 21, and Anthony David Decola, 33. Bessemer police received a call of shots fired at 9:54 p.m. and were on the scene at 9:55 p.m. As officers approached the store, they saw two vehicles fleeing the scene. Police pursued one of those vehicles and, once they got it stopped, found Jackson inside. He was being driven by another male who was trying to get him to the hospital. ....

Bessemer police received a call of shots fired at the Stop N Go on Dartmouth Avenue, said Police Chief Mike Roper. The call came in at 9:54 p.m. and officers were on the scene at 9:55 p.m. As officers approached the store, they saw two vehicles fleeing the scene. In commemoration, the City of Bessemer held their yearly candlelight vigil honoring the lives of those lost to violence and domestic assaults. Bessemer ended 2020 with 18 homicides. As of Tuesday, the city has already reached 18 homicides. Leaders say they plan to do their part to stop the violence. Bessemer Cutoff District Attorney Lyneice Washington shared this strong message for those who choose to solve conflicts with weapons. ....

Violent weekend leaves 3 dead, 1 wounded in Bessemer Updated Apr 05, 2021; A violent weekend in Bessemer left three people dead in two different incidents, including two shot fatally shot at a large gathering on Easter night. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office Monday identified two of the victims as: Demaio Lawrence Kirkland and Kamisha Malea Davis. Kirkland, 31, was killed at 6:43 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of 10th Street South in Bessemer. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 8 p.m. No additional details have yet been released. Then, just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, gunfire erupted in the 80 block of First Avenue North. Lt. Christian Clemons said the victims were at a large family Easter gathering when shots were fired. Police arrived to find Davis and the 22-year-old male victim wounded in the front yard. Police initially said the victims were a couple, but updated that information to say that Davis was the sister of the male’s girlfriend. ....
