MnDOT begins building median wall on Hwy. 12 'Corridor of Death'

It s not often that communities welcome the start of road construction and the traffic disruption it brings, but that s the case on a dangerous corridor in western Hennepin County.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation on Tuesday began work on a center median wall on Hwy. 12 to reduce head-on collisions that have too often resulted in fatalities. MnDOT is also putting in a roundabout to make it easier for drivers to get on and off the winding two-lane highway through Orono, Maple Plain and Independence that many in the area have dubbed the Corridor of Death.
This is a happy event, said Tina Langhans, who lost her daughter in a head-on crash on Hwy. 12 six years ago and has been pushing for safety improvements since. For me, it brings closure. It s one of the best improvements that can be done. ....

In 2000 block of Nelson Road, officer responded to a report that a person had fainted. Delano Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance also responded and rendered care to the patient.
Tuesday, Dec. 8
At Copeland Road/County Road 6, a call was received about a male who unconscious in a white pickup truck. When police arrived on scene, the patient was coming out of a seizure and becoming more alert. Maple Plain Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance also responded. The male was transported to Waconia Hospital.
At Highway 12/Hitsman Lane, officer on a traffic stop detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Suspect driver, a 22-year-old male from Delano, admitted to smoking three hours earlier but denied possession of drugs or paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle resulted in discovery of drug paraphernalia and an open bottle of alcohol. The male was cited for speeding and open bottle and verbally warned for possessing paraphernal ....

In 6100 block of County Road 6, a box of personal property was found on the side of the road and turned in to the police department. The box is being held for safekeeping for the owner to claim.

In 3000 block of Ihduhapi Trail, local business reported a large tree stump and numerous metal T posts that were blocking the roadway. No leads at this time.
In 800 block of Wild Oak Trail, officer responded to report of a vehicle parked in a cul-de-sac with two occupants engaged in extracurricular activity. Both were cited for lewd and lascivious behavior. ....
