ATLANTA Atlanta mayoral candidate and city Councilman Antonio Brown was carjacked Wednesday around the lunch hour, according to reports.
Atlanta police said the incident was reported around 11:42 a.m., when the car was left unlocked in the 2300 block of Verbena Street in northwest Atlanta.
Several males entered his car and drove away with it, police spokeswoman Crystal Johnson said.

WSB TV is reporting that Brown left his vehicle unlocked while attending an event in the area. ....

An Atlanta building, barely a quarter-century old, stands tall on the cities south side. But it s the history and the communities battle over the building that casts an even bigger shadow. 
Built in the 90s as Atlanta won the bid to host the Olympics, the Atlanta City Detention Center made national headlines. 
It was made to house low-risk individuals who violate city ordinances. Around the same time, the city passed an ordinance that made loitering a new punishable offense. 
The community pushed back saying it was a way to penalize the homeless population and rid the city streets of them.  ....

Atlanta mayor releases letter about her future
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has released an open letter about her decision not to seek another term and what her future holds.
The city’s 60th mayor initially made the announcement on an online chat with staff and close supporters on Thursday evening. 
After news of her decision broke, the mayor tweeted an open letter explaining her decision that reads in part:
As Derek and I have given thoughtful prayer and consideration to the season now before us, it is with deep emotions that I hold my head high, and choose not to seek another term as Mayor. ....

For 10 years prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, each weekday morning, Jeremy Wilhelm walked from his house in Grant Park to the King Memorial MARTA station.
There, he caught a train to Five Points and then walked another few blocks to his job in a Marietta Street office tower. In fact, when he and his wife were shopping for a house, their top requirement was being within walking distance of MARTA, says Wilhelm, a project manager and analyst at Westat.
Then, the coronavirus showed up, and Wilhelm’s office shut down. He’s been working out of his living room since March 2020 and expects to do so indefinitely. His wife, Holly, used to commute by MARTA, too, riding the train up to Buckhead. Her job as an aptitude consultant for the Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation requires her to be in the office a couple of days a week, but these days, she prefers to drive. ....
