Idaho teachers are now eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to a new schedule for the vaccine rollout from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Gov. Brad Little announced changes to the timeline on Tuesday afternoon, followed by a press briefing from the department.
Idaho’s latest coronavirus vaccine rollout schedule shows that first responders and safety workers, teachers and staff who work with children from infancy through high school, and correctional facility staff may now start getting vaccinated for COVID-19. ....

As this year comes to a close, many of us have faced difficulties unseen by the last two or three generations.
One bright spot has reinforced my faith in human kindness. Caring Connections in Meridian has given my family a true human experience with the care and kindness they extended to my aging mother.
As an adult day center, they provided transportation, food, companionship, spiritual encouragement for the elderly and physically challenged. Renee and her staff not only provided a safe place for mother to meet and develop new friendships, they gave her a sense freedom that had been been lacking at home. No longer was my mother bound by the chains of loneliness and the feeling of self pity, Caring Connections set her free to be the person she always was. ....

Dec. 23 Idaho recorded 1,272 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Tuesday and 468 new probable cases, for a total of 1,740 new cases reported in one day.
Ada County reported 539 new confirmed cases, bringing the countywide total to 30,562 confirmed infections, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Boise-based Central District Health s data backlog continues to obscure what the county s daily caseload is. Ada has added 349.1 confirmed cases per day in the past week.
Kootenai County reported 299 new confirmed cases, bringing the countywide total to 10,466 confirmed infections, according to the Panhandle Health District. ....

Dec. 20 Ada and Kootenai counties continued to account for a large percentage of Idaho s new COVID-19 cases Saturday.
Ada County added 262 new confirmed coronavirus cases (29,593 total), according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare s daily data update. Kootenai County added 91 (10,036 total).
The homes of Boise and Coeur d Alene accounted for roughly half of the state s 704 new confirmed cases. Idaho also added 29 new probable cases Saturday for a total of 733 new cases. The state s seven-day moving average of new COVID-19 cases has dropped for nine consecutive days to 1,208.3. ....

Idaho hospitals report record COVID-19 cases in ICUs as state begins vaccinations

As Idaho races to vaccinate health care workers, hospitals reported a record number of COVID-19 patients requiring intensive care this week.
A total of 120 COVID-19 patients were in ICUs across the state Tuesday, according to updated data the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported Friday. That number decreased to 118 patients on Wednesday, the last day data from the state was available.
There were 467 Idahoans hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 on Wednesday. That number has fluctuated between 445 and 496 since Nov. 28.
At least 944 Idahoans had received the COVID-19 vaccination as of Friday, according to Health and Welfare. ....
