A teenage boy was shot dead during violent protests in Mangaung on Monday morning, Free State police said. Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said it was alleged that the incident happened when a group of protesters attacked a warehouse in Dr Belcher Road, Bloemfontein. A 57-year-old security guard has been arrested for the teen s murder. The security guard, who was alone at the time, fired a shot in a quest to scare the mob but unfortunately hit a 15-year-old boy, Makhele said. The teenager died on the scene. ....
âââ 15:52 Mon, 17 May 2021 A case of hijacking has been registered for further investigation after the 41-year-old manager of Mangaung Metro Solid Waste was allegedly hijacked during the shutdown protest. Sazly Hartzenberg from Bloemfontein Courant reports this comes after a photo of a burning vehicle was making the rounds this morning. According to Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, this was the vehicle of the 41-year-old manager of Mangaung Metro Solid Waste. Makhele said the manager was driving along MacKenzie Street in Heidedal on his way to work when he was stopped by a white bakkie with registration number JKL 673 NW. Three males from the bakkie then approached the manager in his vehicle and one pointed him with a firearm and instructed him to get out of the vehicle. âThey then drove away with his BMW and after a few minutes the vehicle was recovered burnt at MacKenzie Street.â ....

Makkinga Contracting and Equipment Rentals has been given this contract after submitting a tender of $3,049,573.94, being the lowest bid. The other contract looked at asphalt paving. The work associated with the contract would see pavement resurfacing on sections of Frederica Street, John Street Road, and Oliver Road. Bruno’s Contracting was awarded the contract after a bid of $781,159.40, the lowest after the original estimate was $870,000.00. ....
