Caledon calls on Province for public consultations on Highway 413 plan

After hearing from the community regarding the GTA West Corridor, the Town of Caledon is hopping on board to gain more understanding on the proposed highway and the impacts it will have on the Town. 
During a February 16 meeting, local resident and environmentalist Jennifer Leforestier delegated to Council encouraging lawmakers to reverse their support for the proposed 400-series highway.
Council originally showed their support in 2018 claiming it has been a priority for several years.
“My requests are that Council reverse support and endorsement for Highway 413,” said Leforestier at the session last month, “[and] officially request the Federal government to conduct an environmental impact assessment of the proposed highway.” ....

Yet another major stakeholder in the Highway 413 project has expressed their opposition to the new 400-series highway, which would cut through a 50 km-long stretch of rivers, forests and farm lands in Ontario some of them part of the protected Greenbelt  stretching from Halton and Peel regions to York.
The City Council of Vaughan, which the thoroughfare is supposed to pass through before linking up with Highway 400 in King, formally changed its stance this week after long supporting the four-to-six lane road, which has also been called the GTA West Highway. ....

A new 400 series highway that is set to further link the Toronto area is getting pushback from municipalities who feel that the development s consequences will vastly outweight its public benefit.
Mississauga Council unanimously approved a new motion this week that officially puts the city in strong opposition to the forthcoming Highway 413, also known as the GTA West Highway, which is slated to run through Halton, Peel and York regions, connecting with Highways 407, 401, 410 and 400 along the way.
It will span approximately 50 km from the edge of Mississauga to Vaughan at a cost of $6 billion, and is expected to eventually see 300,000 motorists per day within 10 years. ....
