Ventilators to be used in Karnataka instead of high flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) to reduce oxygen demand, said state Health and Medical Minister Dr K Sudhakar.
After chairing a virtual meet with District Health Officers (DHOs), District Surgeons, Deans and Director of Medical Colleges and Super Speciality Hospitals in all districts, the Minister said that patients with moderate symptoms need about 20-60 litres of oxygen per minute. So we have to find ways to reduce dependence on oxygen, and hence we are trying to utilise NIV ventilators as a more effective alternative. This will reduce the oxygen demand by 80 per cent, and all patients in HFNO will be shifted to ventilator beds. ....

JAMMU, Apr 28: As the hospitals in both the capitals of Jammu and Kashmir are already facing an immense load due to routine admissions of the COVID-19 positive patients from all over the Union Territory, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Kashmir and Jammu today directed the hospitals in peripheries to refrain from referring patients to tertiary care hospitals.
While issuing the order in this connection, DHS Jammu Dr Renu Sharma has impressed upon all Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and Medical Superintendents to ensure that there are no unnecessary referrals from districts to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu which is already overburdened with the load of COVID patients. ....

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has approved the creation of more posts in the Directorate General of Health Services to enhance the working capacity of the Health Department.
The approval was given at a meeting chaired by the chief minister on Sunday, said an official handout.
Health and Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Health Secretary Imtiaz Hussain Shah, Finance Secretary Aatif Rehman, Director General Health Services Dr Niaz and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
The participants of the meeting were informed that the additional directors-general to be posted at the regional level would be responsible for the recruitment, transfers, postings and promotions of health employees up to Grade 15 at the regional level. ....
