The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is returning to Marshall County, and this time will go to the Marshalltown Community College. Iowa Valley Community College District Chancellor Kristie Fisher said initial conversations between the school and government officials indicated the vaccines will arrive in mid-April. “I received an email letting me know the governor’s office was going to prioritize future doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for colleges,” she said. “I was delighted. I have watched the campus as things have been returning to normal. This is one step closer to the new normal, which I hope looks like what it did pre-pandemic.” ....

UnityPoint – Marshalltown has made it a top priority to vaccinate as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, said Sean Hylton, UnityPoint’s marketing communications specialist. “As experienced around the country, there are limited supplies of vaccine available so far, yet we’re pleased to have administered all our allocated vaccines within a couple days of receiving the doses,” Hylton said. Even though grades have fallen, the students are happy to be in the classroom. Marshalltown Community School District officials know COVID-19 is primarily spreading in the community, so having students in classrooms is not only safe for their health but important for their academic growth. While the academics might be struggling, the health of the students and their happiness has been stable. Students have already experienced the first two-week remote learning period before the Thanksgiving break in November. They returned to their classrooms on Dec. 1. ....
The Marshall County Health Department opened a new COVID-19-Response Call Center to better serve the community. The COVID-19 Call Center will be staffed Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The COVID-19 Call Center can inform the Marshall County residents about area testing sites and assist them in obtaining their COVID-19 test results if it has been more than 7 days since their test date. In addition, the Call Center Coordinator will record COVID-19-related complaints to be investigated. The Call Center is also equipped to assist callers needing help with food, housing, and other needs associated with the lack of resources due to COVID-19. “The COVID-19 Call Center will also allow the staff at the Health Department to function more efficiently,” stated Lisa Letsinger, Marshall County Public Health Nurse. ....
