Arlington ISD is dealing with broken pipes and water damage at two dozen schools.
ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington ISD is dealing with broken pipes and water damage at two dozen schools.
Campuses are closed until Monday. Now, administrators are faced with a difficult challenge between now and then to remedy.
In addition to busted pipes, Arlington ISD is having problems with some of its boilers as well.
Their situation isn t unique.
Dallas and Fort Worth ISDs are seeing similar problems in many of their schools. The situation could get worse as we begin to thaw out. ....

23 Arlington ISD buildings damaged by winter storm, officials say

ARLINGTON, Texas Maintenance crews are assessing damages at 21 Arlington ISD schools and two administration buildings, caused by the winter storm.
The district provided video of burst pipes at Nichols Jr. High and flooded floors at one of its administration buildings Thursday.
“They’ve been working day and night, to assess to protect, to start the cleanup process,” Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. “A lot of it is flooding and pipes bursting.” 
The number one priority is to provide students with a safe learning environment, Cavazos said. Whatever that takes, however long it takes, and whatever form that takes has yet to be decided. ....

Texas A&M Aggies and former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is back on the gridiron. Over the weekend, Manziel took his first snaps with the new upstart Fan Controlled Football League, which allows for fans to call plays for the teams on the field.

Laredo and Webb County officials reported the area continues to see a decrease in the spread of COVID-19, reporting 98 cases and five fatalities due to the virus in their daily coronavirus update.
This marks the third time this month and second consecutive day that less than a 100 positives were confirmed in the daily report. In all of January, less than 100 cases were reported on only six occasions. ....

The City of Laredo has received 5,000 more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine following a successful one-day distribution event on Monday, the city announced Thursday.
Their appointment system opens at 8 a.m. Friday through vaccinatelaredo.com or by calling 3-1-1, and the vaccines will be distributed Saturday, collaborating again with local school districts.
A total of 3,860 doses will be available, according to the city 3,088 appointments via the website and 772 via phone. The remaining 1,140 doses will be allocated to volunteers helping with the distribution and neighboring government entities in Laredo’s hospital regi ....
