RSN927 DEATH AT THE BOOL DAYS AFTER CUP REVIEW May 5, 2021 4:39 pm By Matt Stewart, Racing Editor Just days after Anthony Van Dyck in last year’s Melbourne Cup, a horse has perished at the Warrnambool May carnival. Fulmineus, an 11-year-old longshot, was euthanised after suffering serious injury in a fall in today’s 3450m steeplechase. Two horses fell in the race but the other, Ascot Red, was uninjured. Fulmineus had returned from a 10-month injury lay-off in a flat race at Terang in March but hadn’t contested a steeplechase since running seventh in last year’s Grand Annual at Warrnambool. ....
RSN927 WARRNAMBOOL IN MAY, THE GREAT ESCAPE May 3, 2021 2:32 pm By Matt Stewart, Racing Editor When jumps horses were dropping like flies a decade ago, prompting Racing Victoria boss Rob Hines to conduct a crisis meeting in the Warrnambool steward’s room on Grand Annual Day, racing was confronted with a couple of unimaginables. The three days of the 2009 May racing carnival were the darkest in jumps racing history. Six jumpers had perished in 14 days. Twelve had died in 12 months and three in three days at the Bool. Hines declared “that’s it!” and suspended the sport after popular South Australian horse ....

He was looking good to win the Grand Annual at Cheltenham before for a mistake two fences from home. He plugged away to finish second to Sky Pirate and can correct the record today. HARRIE (28/1) is a big-price runner here for Willie Mullins who will be ridden prominently and is interesting for eachway terms. 16:50 - Mongey Communications La Touche Cup Cross Country Chase BALLYBOKER BRIDGE (10/1) is a nice price and admirably consistent around Punchestown. The one blot on his Punchestown copybook came in February when he was pulled up in a race won by Shady Operator but before that he had a great record. He won this race in 2019 and lost little in two defeats to Neverrushacon last year. He would have had quite a few of these behind him on those occasions, including the second favourite Some Neck last November. He should be primed for this ....
