(Tribune News Service) After about a year stuck in committee, a resolution opposing the placement of F-35 jets at Truax Field in Madison is back up for consideration by Dane County, but even if the proposal passes, it s unlikely to stop or stall the jets arrival. Last April, the U.S. Air Force selected Madison to host the squadron of F-35 fighter jets, which are expected to bring jobs and new construction but also noise and pollution. The $90 million jets will begin arriving in 2023 and replace the current fleet of 1980s-model F-16s at the Wisconsin Air National Guard s 115th Fighter Wing. ....

Responsibilities include holding public meetings, recommending policies to improve the police department and providing advice for additional officer training. The members will be appointed by the city council members, the police chief and the mayor. They must be at least 18 years old and commit to an initial term of two or four years. ....
City Council Denies Liquor License a Second Time for SASY Stop-N-Go Image by Barbara Smith Madison’s City Council voted a second time last night to deny an alcohol license for a convenience store owned by Kwik Trip in Schenk’s Corners community on Madison’s East Side. The decision comes after community members spoke out against the store, saying that the new owners are not serving the Madison community. Yesterday’s meeting was just under two hours. In the first half, the council decided a number of other matters, such as a declaring March 1 COVID-19 remembrance and recovery day and authorizing a number of development projects. ....
