Student athletes deserve the right to capitalize on their own name, image, and likeness

For many Americans across the country, college sports are not just a pastime enjoyed with friends and family, but rather a part of the culture of who we are and where we are from. Ohio and Missouri are prime examples of places where college sports take on more meaning than just something to watch on TV. Whether it’s a primetime game at the Horseshoe or a matchup against Kansas at Mizzou Arena, the passion for college athletics is palpable.
It is this love of college sports, bolstered by our own experiences as student athletes, that has driven two congressmen from different political parties, parts of the country, and college sports allegiances to address the great injustice that currently exists the inability of student athletes to capitalize on their own name, image, and likeness or NIL. ....

High school student Roger Zamarripa Jr. has entered Vans Custom Culture competition with a puro SA design. We recently reported on Edison High School student Roger Zamarripa Jr. s puro San Antonio design that advanced in Vans’ Custom Culture shoe design competition.
Turns out, Zamarripa will be joined by other San Antonio student-artists a three-person team, also from Edison, plus a team from East Central High School in the finals of the shoe company s annual contest. ....

Iconic San Antonio eatery Lulu’s appears to have closed its doors for good. Those hoping for a return of Lulu s Bakery and Cafe s three-pound cinnamon rolls may want to find another over-the-top pastry to covet.
The iconic San Antonio diner home to monstrous cinnamon rolls often featured on food TV programs has placed its entire equipment inventory up for auction. According to a Facebook Marketplace listing from last week, the near-downtown eatery has hired RCI Online Auctions, which specializes in offloading commercial restaurant equipment and industrial equipment, to handle the affair. ....

Facebook post with Idaho's Shelley High School students in blackface stirs outcry

Shelley High School ignited debate in the community after posting picturesÂ to Facebook from a school pep rally where some students appeared to be in blackface.
The pictures were part of a gallery of nearly 60 photos posted by the school after the 2021 Russet Olympics, an event held Thursday as part of the school s homecoming do-over week.Â Students were asked to wear different colors to the event depending on their grade level, with seniors wearing black.
While the majority of students in the class only wore black clothes, screenshots of the since-deleted photos showed at least three seniors had their faces completely covered in black paint. ....
