That s in line with new guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. State health officials are also recommending that all people age 12 and older get vaccinated against COVID-19 before returning to in-person schooling, sports or other activities. The recommendations come amid concerns about a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases driven by the delta variant. Former township clerk sentenced to prison for fraud scheme Associated Press Text size Copy shortlink: MINNEAPOLIS A Twin Cities woman was sentenced Tuesday to more than two years in federal prison and ordered to pay back more than $650,000 she admitted to stealing from Vermillion Township in Dakota County while serving as its elected clerk. Maryann Stoffel, 70, of Hastings, pleaded guilty in March to felony wire fraud in connection with a scheme that spanned nearly eight years. Stoffel had signature authority over the township s bank account, which required two people signing off on checks, according to the complaint. Investigators said she either forged the signatures of the township s treasurer or board chair or collected their actual signatures on blank checks while claiming she was going to pay township bills. ....
Former Township Clerk Sentenced for Wire Fraud Scheme According to court documents, from December 2012 through October 2020, 70-year-old Maryann Stoffel used her elected position as the Clerk of the Township of Vermillion to take more than $650,000 of Township funds. Although Stoffel had signature authority over the Township’s bank account, Township checks required at least two signatures. As part of the fraud scheme, Stoffel, at times, forged the signatures of the Township’s Treasurer and the Chairman of the Township Board on Township checks. At other times, Stoffel solicited signatures from the Township’s Treasurer and the Chairman of the Township Board on blank Township checks by falsely representing that she would use the checks to pay the Township’s bills. ....
