Activity centre and cafe at Pontymoile canal basin planned


Another said that local businesses should be supported, and the current café should be retained.
Other objections included asking questions over the necessity of an activities centre, traffic on Fountain Road, and the proposed look of the new facilities.
The proposal has been put forward by the Canal and River Trust in conjunction with Torfaen and Caerphilly County Borough Councils.
The three organisations have been successful in bidding for funding from the Welsh European Funding Office to provide an activity hub at the site.

Camden Council appoints first Black mayor Sabrina Francis | Hampstead Highgate Express

Camden Council has appointed its first Black woman mayor, Cllr Sabrina Francis.
The Bloomsbury councillor was sworn in on Tuesday at a meeting of the full council.
Cllr Francis succeeds outgoing mayor Cllr Maryam Eslamdoust (Kilburn). Cllr Lorna Russell has been appointed deputy mayor (Fortune Green). 
The new mayor’s chosen charity is Gingerbread, which supports single parent families. 
Cllr Francis said: “Coming from a single parent family, I have witnessed the strength and resilience it takes to raise children and deal with challenges alone.

Farming unions and YFC host virtual Senedd election hustings


WELSH farming unions and local Young Farmers Clubs have come together in Brecon and Radnor to ensure that their members have the opportunity to quiz Senedd election hopefuls next week.
NFU Cymru, the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) and CLA Cymru, alongside Brecknock and Radnor Young Farmers’ Federations, have worked together to arrange a virtual electoral hustings for the Brecon and Radnor constituency, inviting all candidates to participate in the event on Monday, April 26, starting at 7pm.
The event will be hosted on the Zoom platform and members will be sent login details ahead of the event. Each candidate will have a timeslot allocated and will be invited to present their local ambitions if successfully elected with a question and answer session. ....

Kids clubs will be held during Easter holidays


ACTIVITY sessions for children in Powys will be held during the Easter holidays, the county council has said.
Powys County Council has arranged its ‘Children’s Easter Activity Sessions’, which will be held from Monday, March 29, to Friday, April 9. The sessions will take place at four venues across the county and are aged for children aged five to 17.
The sessions, which will run in line with Welsh Government Covid-19 guidance, will be held at Ysgol Golwg y Cwm in Ystradgynlais, Llandrindod Wells Youth Centre, Hafren School in Newtown and in Welshpool.
The sessions will be Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) from 10am to 12noon apart from Newtown which will run from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Places will be limited so parents/carers must book their child’s place online. ....
