As Nigeria seeks ways to be self-sufficient in essential agricultural commodities, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammad Nanono, weekend, disclosed mission to increase capacity in wheat production.
This was contained in a statement signed by Director, Information, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Theodore Ogaziechi, where the Nanono maintained that government is determined to reduce wheat importation, enhance food security and nutrition, conserve scarce foreign exchange and create jobs for Nigerians.
He also said with the interest indicated by one of the leading flour mills in the country, Crown Flour Mill (OLAM Grains) during a courtesy visit paid him at his office in Abuja by delegation of the company led by the Corporate Affairs Manager, Damilola Adeniyi, to partner with the Ministry to expand the production capacity ....

NANS: Dangote to Compensate Families of Dead Students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said the Dangote Group has agreed to pay compensations to the relatives of students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, killed during a road mishap.
This was contained in a statement by the National President of NANS, Sunday Asefon, revealing that an agreement had been reached at a meeting with Dangote Group that families of the deceased would be compensated.
Six students of the university and nine others were killed on January 23, when a truck belonging to Dangote Group, rammed into a shopping complex in Akungba Akoko. ....

NANS gets compensations for families of varsity students killed by Dangote Truck

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has secured commitment from Dangote company for compensations for the students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, killed during a road mishap.
Six students of the university and nine others were killed on January 23, 2021, when a truck belonging to Dangote Group rammed into a shopping complex in Akungba Akoko.
Shortly after that incident, the National President of NANS, Com. Sunday Asefon had promised to seek justice for the victims, assuring that their deaths would not be in vain.
Asefon in a statement entitled: “Our Colleagues Must Get Justice”, in Ado Ekiti, on Saturday, said the compensation pact was reached with Dangote group after a meeting with the management of the conglomerate, on Thursday. ....

Herders-farmers clash: Charting way forward for age-long conflict


Again, the herders-farmers crisis in the country is on the front burner. The recent disturbance of public peace in Oyo and Ondo states in the Southwest geo-political zone with reports of arson and alleged killings are indications that the present administration, like its predecessors, has not found solutions to the age-long problem yet. The reactions that have trailed the development also proved that the government still has a lot of work to do if it hopes to permanently put the problem behind Nigerians.
Nonetheless, cattle rearing is a long-standing practice in the country. The herders practiced open grazing at the outset and co-existed peacefully with farmers, as there were adequate grazing fields for herders and land for farmers. To cement that cohabitation, the Federal Government established grazing routes and reserves to protect grazing lands from crop farming and provide easier access for pastoralists to grazing land through the enactment of the Grazing Reserve Act of 1 ....
