Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development will host its Eighth Annual “Girls in Technology” symposium on Thursday, June 3 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The interactive, live-stream event is open by invitation only to Hudson County middle and high school students, and is designed to provide information about fulfilling and well-paying careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) professions. ....

From Bogotá to Statesboro, a graduate designs his future at Georgia Southern

When Daniel Castro’s daily routine shifted from Bogotá, Colombia, a sprawling, capital city surrounded by the Andes Mountains, to the plains of Statesboro, Georgia, he was excited for new opportunities as an international student at Georgia Southern University. 
Castro long wanted to attend college in the U.S. and worked with an agency in Bogotá to explore various institutions with solid graphic design degree programs.
“Georgia Southern was one of the one options and the one I liked best,” said Castro. “I liked the location and the graphic design program was really interesting. I was also looking at pictures of the campus and things around here.” ....

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) cleared up its remaining routine tasks during this most non-routine of years at its last regular meeting of the academic year on Tuesday afternoon. Many of the prior meetings had been largely given over to hearing reports, but significant academic action was taken in the April session, when the new doctoral program in quantum science and engineering was approved.
Today, at the request of the faculty’s docket committee, President Lawrence S. Bacow, Provost Alan Garber, and FAS dean Claudine Gay spelled out the steps Harvard and the FAS have taken to prevent any recurrence of the University’s engagement with individuals like the convicted sex offender (and donor) Jeffrey Epstein, including promulgation of the first public gift policy, steps to assure its enforcement, and changes in the way the faculty grants visiting fellowships (of the sort improperly granted Epstein). ....

Jura Wins Extension School Student Government Election, Commits to Transparency After Election Rules Dispute | News


Kevin F. Jura will serve as the next president of the Harvard Extension Student Association for the 2021-2022 term after defeating opponent Antjaun Finch in a runoff election.
Results were announced Monday on HESA’s election website after an additional week of voting to conclude the runoff election between the two candidates. Jura joins new HESA Vice President Vivian Okonta, who was elected last Monday after running unopposed.
This year’s election for HESA president was mired in controversy for the second year in a row. Just weeks before the elections were set to begin, new eligibility requirements were implemented, disqualifying at least one potential candidate from running for the position of president. ....
