Suspect in Las Cruces Homicide Arrested in Mexico

By Las Cruces Police Department • Apr 28, 2021 Credit LCPD - Alfonso Rodriguez and Leanna Herrera LAS CRUCES - Alfonso Rodriguez, the 32-year-old man suspected in the March 28 shooting death of Ramon Archuleta on west Picacho Avenue in Las Cruces, was arrested Tuesday by law enforcement in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Las Cruces police were notified of Rodriguez’s arrest early Tuesday evening. Juarez police, working in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service, located Rodriguez hiding in an abandoned warehouse. Rodriguez is expected to be extradited back to Las Cruces where he faces one first-degree felony count of murder and a third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence in the shooting death of 37-year-old Ramon Archuleta.

LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces police have issued a Silver Alert for a 70-year-old Las Cruces man who was last seen Tuesday afternoon.  Juan Alvarado Enriquez has a medical condition that requires medication, police say. He was last seen about 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, on the 2200 block of Holiday Avenue. It is believed he left the residence on foot.

Las Cruces-raised dancer returns to film festival commission

LAS CRUCES – Dallas-based Dark Circles Contemporary Dance set up residence in Las Cruces last week filming a performance at White Sands National Park and area racquetball courts for a New York City-based festival. DCCD Founder and Artistic Director Joshua Peugh is originally from Las Cruces and grew up dancing at Michele’s Dance Academy which has been a part of the Las Cruces community for 42 years. Now an award-winning choreographer, Peugh was commissioned by DANCE NOW NYC to create a made-for-film dance for their 25th anniversary season. The organization produces several programs, but one is a dance festival held each September at Joe’s Pub in New York City – a restaurant with a small stage, part of The Public Theater. Peugh has been commissioned to create work for this program previously.
