The recipients: the roughly 55,000 independent, freelance musicians in Germany who figuratively or literally sing for their supper. Unaffiliated with orchestras or other institutions, if they don t play, they don t earn. The general music director and principal conductor of Hamburg s state opera, Kent Nagano, also participated in the event. ....

Rock icon Peter Maffay closed the concert on Sunday, leading a lineup that also featured Adel Tawil, Die Fantastischen Vier, Eskimo Callboy, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Johannes Oerding, Joy Denalane, LEA, Milky Chance, Rea Garvey and The BossHoss. Across two days, the artist performed on a mixed reality stage, the livestream was broadcast via the channels of German telco giant Telekom. The concerts have so far raised €813,255 ($985,000), fans are still able to donate.
