WARIF Completes Third Cycle of the Gate Keepers Project Against Sexual Violence

In its commitment to address the issue of Gender Based Violence in Nigeria, Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) partnered Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation again this year for the third Cycle of the Gatekeepers Project to train community gatekeepers who serve as first responders to cases of rape and sexual violence in their direct communities.
To this end, WARIF has successfully trained another group of stakeholders to tackle the menace of rape and sexual violence under its Gatekeepers Project.
The project, supported by ACT Foundation, is in its third cycle of addressing the prevalence of sexual violence among young girls and women in rural communities across local government areas in Lagos. ....

Traditional womb 'resetting' can cause recurrent miscarriage, uterus rupture —Gynaecologist

A Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at the Bridge Clinic Fertility Centre, Dr. MorenikejiOlaniyi, has warned women of childbearing age to stop the practice of having their wombs massaged and ‘reset’ by unskilled Traditional Birth Attendants.
The practice can lead to recurrent miscarriage and uterus rupture, Olaniyi said.
She warned that the practice is not medically recognised, and that it can displace the womb from its natural positioning, making conception ultimately difficult.
Olaniyi spoke against the backdrop of a study titled, ‘Abdominal massage: Another cause of maternal mortality,’ published by the National Library of Science.
The study states that abdominal massage is an age-long practice among obstetric and non-obstetric patients in different parts of the riverine areas of Southern Nigeria, noting that abdominal massage is a silent killer, and has added to maternal and perinatal mort ....
