Norwalk needs a citizen review board for its police department

This is an open letter to Mayor Harry Rilling and Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik. The Race and Social Justice Coalition at St. Paul’s, a diverse group of over 60 church and community members, has been learning about issues of race and justice for the past four years. Through research and examination of books, discussions, films and much more we have grown into a coalition which is concerned about human rights and issues of social justice, within the state of Connecticut and particularly in the city of Norwalk where two- thirds of Coalition members live. Thank you for helping others

Person-to-Person (P2P) would like to thank the community for supporting the record levels of assistance it has provided since the start of the pandemic. In 2020, P2P’s emergency assistance programs provided groceries to prepare 1.9M home-cooked meals, over $850,000 in financial support and holiday programs to support families and individuals struggling to make ends meet. More than 2,000 winter coats were distributed in partnership with Beiersdorf’s Keep Norwalk Warm event, more than double last year’s distribution. And rather than cancel its annual Toy Store, P2P created a winter wonderland drive-through distribution so 2,000 children could receive board games, books, stuffed animals and gift cards for toys.

CT Senate votes to ban hair discrimination By Christopher Keating Prompted by testimony about discrimination, the Connecticut state Senate granted final legislative approval Monday night for a bill that prohibits discrimination based on hairstyles historically associated with race. In response to concerns raised by Black women, Connecticut is headed toward becoming the eighth state to adopt a new law on the issue. The bipartisan measure passed by 33 - 0 with two Republicans absent. The state House of Representatives voted 139 to 9 last week for the CROWN Act, which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair. The bill now goes to Gov. Ned Lamont, who supports the measure.
