Puerto Rican literature database is being assembled by UH faculty An open access digital Puerto Rican literature database is under development by UH faculty, thanks to a hefty grant. | Chris Charleston/ The Cougar UH is receiving a nearly $1.35 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to create a free, open-access digital portal for anyone to learn about or teach Puerto Rican literature. Officially known as the “El proyecto de la literatura puertorriqueña” or “The Puerto Rican Literature Project,” it will include a database in Spanish and English of approximately 50,000 assets of photographs, manuscripts, poems, videos, and archival materials. ....

While the world shifted and slowed around us amid stay-at-home orders, Chung and Yasuda reflected on their own creative processes, how they have adapted in response to the pandemic, and what they envision the future holds for artists. ....
From Oakland to Atlanta, New York City to Los Angeles, and in cities across the United States, violent attacks against Asian Americans have skyrocketed and, in several tragic cases, turned deadly. Many of these assaults have been against the most vulnerable in society: the elderly and women. The murder by a gunman of six women of Asian descent at three Atlanta-area spas reprehensibly put into focus the intersectional ways in which racism and misogyny objectify and dehumanize. In response to this horrific crime and the nearly 4,000 reported incidents of anti-Asian racism in the U.S. over the past year, the Asian American community and allied organizations have mobilized to demand action. ....
