Waxhachie ISD hosted D.E.A.R. day on Friday for the 24th year.

Waxahachie Daily Light
The 24th annual “Drop Everything and Read,” or D.E.A.R., Day, was held on Friday, Feb. 26, as students throughout Waxahachie ISD read a book.
The virtual event was kicked off with a video greeting from Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain.
Last year’s DEAR Day was the last major district event we had before COVID hit, so it was a full-scale event, said Jenny Bridges, director of public relations for WISD. We are still not allowing visitors on campus, so our wonderful Partners in Education team, led by Melissa Cobb, planned a completely virtual event.
This year s DEAR Day looked a bit different as volunteers were not able to physically read books to students. ....

Waxahachie Daily Light
The Waxahachie Independent School District board of trustees unanimously referred a $127 million bond issue to voters for the May 1 election during Monday night’s regular monthly meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain said a voter-approved bond issue will not necessitate a property tax increase.
“Our student enrollment just continues to grow,” Cain said. “We’ve been told we will have 1,000 extra students next year … When you’re looking at the houses that are selling and the houses that are being proposed, we need to be ready.”
The bond will provide more than 1,500 additional classroom seats to accommodate the district’s fast growth. The proposed projects include: ....
