Court remands two suspects for alleged adulteration of engine oil -


The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of two businessmen, Vanger Luper and Bright Ogbuagu, at the Correctional Centre in Ikoyi for allegedly adulterating Automobile Engine oil.
They were alleged to have produced fake Total, Mobil, Forte Oil and MMASCO engine lubricants and placed forged labels on them to deceive unsuspecting buyers.
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) arraigned them on five counts of dealing in substandard engine oil and fraudulently claiming they were genuine products.
Prosecuting counsel, Adeleke Olofindare, said Luper, of 27 Bale Street, Onireke, Ojo, and Ogbuagu of 5 Okoye Street, Igbeniri, Ojo, conspired to commit the alleged offence on December 23, 2020, at the United Allied Spare Parts Dealers Association (UASPDA), Trade Fair Complex, on the Lagos Badagry Expressway. ....

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has debunked claims by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) that the wife of its embattled leader Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has been infected by the deadly COVID-19 while in detention at its facility in Kaduna.
This was contained in a statement signed by the spokesman of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kaduna State Command, Daniel Wadai, who insisted that there is no report of any COVID-19 infection in any of their facilities as all inmates are safe and well-protected.
“The attention of the Kaduna State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) has been drawn to a news item being circulated by some mischief makers alleging that an inmate in one of the custodial centres in the state has contracted COVID-19,” the statement said. ....

The Police in Anambra have arrested a 37-year-old man, Nonso Eze, for allegedly pushing his girlfriend to death from a five-storey building.
The incident occurred, Saturday, at No 6 Orakwe Close, Awada Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.
The police spokesperson in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
He said “Mr Eze pushed the girl, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, from the building at 3a.m”.
The police visited the scene of the incident, rushed the victim to hospital where she was confirmed dead. ....

Court remands dealers charged with inscribing fake SON mark on adulterated engine oil
SON says the offence is punishable under section 26(a) and (b) of Standards Organisation of Nigeria Act, 2015.

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered that two businessmen accused of dealing in adulterated engine oil products be remanded in Ikoyi prison.
The judge, Chuka Obiozor, issued the remand order after the
Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) arraigned the two men on five counts, including fraudulent inscription of fake SON mark and certification number on the alleged substandard products.
SON alleged that the defendants – Vanger Luper and Bright Ogbuagu – inscribed the fake SON mark and certification number on forged labels of Total, Mobil, Forte Oil and MMASCO to deceive unsuspecting buyers. ....
