Kaduna In Kaduna State, despite the implementation of free and compulsory education, residents say insecurity is leading the factors responsible for school dropouts, particularly in rural communities where banditry attacks have become incessant. Bala Udawa, a resident of Udawa in Chikun Local Government Area, said many children had been forced to abandon school for fear of being kidnapped. On poor facilities, he said, “In my community, the school authority has no choice but to introduce shift for pupils. We usually had separate schools for both primary and secondary schools, but they now share the same school,” he said. According to the Niger State Commissioner for Health, Niger State saved over N300 million (US$0.73 million) that would have been spent on medical tourism in 2020.  Estimates of the cost of outbound medical tourism to the country overall vary from US$400 million to US$2 billion. Niger State has spent the savings on reviving the medical system, in an attempt to reduce future outbound medical travel costs.
