In a bid to ensure proper registration of SIM cards, the Federal Government has approved 173 centres and 30 state government institutions to conduct the enrolment of all persons into the National Identity Database (NIDB) on behalf of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The Nigerian Government has approved 173 centres and 30 state government institutions to carry out enrolments for National Identity Number (NIN) nationwide.
This development comes on the heels of the Nigerian Communications Commission directing telecommunication service subscribers to block SIM cards not registered with NIN after two weeks.
A public notice on the website of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) titled, ‘Approved Data Capturing Agents (Digital Identity Ecosystem)’ on Wednesday, enlisted the approved the outlets for the NIN registration.
The notice read, “The Honorable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), has approved the licensing of 173 Agents and 30 State Governments/Public Sector Institutions to conduct enrolment of all persons including legal residents into the National Identity Database on behalf of the National Identity Management Commission. ....

This was contained in a public notice on the website of the National Identity Management Commission titled, ‘Approved Data Capturing Agents (Digital Identity Ecosystem)’ on Wednesday.
The Nigerian Communications Commission had recently asked telecommunication service subscribers to block SIM cards not registered with NIN after two weeks.
However, the House of Representatives has asked the Federal Government to extend the deadline for the provision of NIN by telcos to 10 weeks.
The House, at the plenary on Wednesday, described the two weeks given to SIM card users by the Nigerian Communications Commission to provide their NIN to service providers as grossly inadequate. ....
