Organizers have dubbed the theme of the convention to be “Stronger Together.” In a news release the organization has stated that “COVID-19 has shown that while municipal leaders can’t physically be together, they can still work together to build stronger communities by sharing information and acting with one voice to ensure Saskatchewan’s hometowns have the resources they need.” While we are disappointed we don t have an opportunity to meet with you in person over the next few days, going virtual was the only way we could ensure we could still come together in some way, said Randy Goulden, 2021 convention chair in her convention remarks. ....
“It is an honour to be elected Municipalities of Saskatchewan President,” said Hayward. “I look forward to continuing to work with Municipalities of Saskatchewan’s Board of Directors as President, and our member municipalities, to ensure our hometowns have the resources we need. We are stronger when we work together.”
Hayward has served as Municipalities of Saskatchewan’s Vice-President of Towns since 2012. He was first elected to the Board of Directors in 2010 as Northeast Regional Director. Hayward has represented the community of Naicam since 1996, and has served six terms as mayor.
Municipalities of Saskatchewan’s towns and villages, resort villages, and northern municipal sectors also elected their sector representatives. Nipawin Mayor Rennie Harper will serve as the new Vice-President of Towns, and incumbent Mike Strachan, Mayor of Torquay, will continue to serve as Vice-President of Villages, Resort Villages, and Northern Municipalit ....
“With another term ahead of us, I wanted to offer all our members the dedication and commitment they deserve, and I decided the best way to do that was run for president,” Hayward said. “I want to focus on putting our members and their needs first and being a strong voice for Saskatchewan hometowns.” Hayward is currently the Municipalities of Saskatchewan’s vice-president of towns. He will be running against incumbent Gordon Barnhart, the mayor of Saltcoats. The election will be held on Feb. 8, during the organization s virtual convention. “In light of recent events by our present president and his trip out of country for a holiday and just a few other decisions he s made over the last couple of years, I wanted to make sure our members had a choice in who they want to be our president,” Hayward said. ....
