Topics Good Things Foundation and Nominet have announced plans to set up a Data Poverty Lab with the aim of bringing more digitally excluded people online. The digital inclusion charity and the registry for UK web domain names are creating the body to look into the issues around some people not having the connectivity or being able to afford the data capacity to meet essential needs. It will bring together telcos, internet service providers and policy makers to identify the gaps in data availability for disadvantaged people and possible solutions. A spokesperson said that some of these have already shown a strong interest, and that the research would bring in people who have experienced data poverty. ....
Voluntary Action Epping Forest has partnered with The Good Things Foundation to help people complete the Census Help is at hand if you have yet to complete your UK Census form and live in Epping Forest. Most people completed their UK Census by Sunday, March 21, but if you were unable to do so the extended deadline is April 30. If you are struggling to fill it in or do not have access to a computer, Voluntary Action Epping Forest has joined forces with The Good Things Foundation to provide help. The two charities are working together to run a telephone helpline and drop-in support service to help people complete the digital form before next week s deadline. ....

Today, eSafety is launching a course on Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter to help older Australians who are not yet using these popular social media platforms. This free and very engaging course will provide even more reasons to explore creative outlets on social media. eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said close to 45% of Australians in their 70s have never messaged or posted on social media . ....

The online play sessions were set up by Glasgow-based Licketyspit Theatre Company to tackle social isolation and to support families during lockdown. Around 80% of the families taking part in Big Porridge and Play online are refugees who have given the thumbs up to the games, sing songs and imaginary adventures generated by the programme. The online sessions are a spin-off from the Big Porridge and Play programme created in 2017 for children living in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Glasgow. At the start of lockdown, Licketyspit was one of several organisations to address digital inequality through the Scottish Government’s Wellbeing Fund, BEMIS Scotland, the Good Things Foundation and, latterly, Connecting Scotland, to ensure that digital access was not a barrier to participating.
