History Museum celebrates 100th birthday of South Bend Blue Sox star Betsy Jochum


Highlights include the following:
• Birthday cards to Betsy can be mailed to her care of The History Museum, 808 West Washington St., South Bend, IN 46601. The museum will deliver the cards to Betsy.
• A drive-through birthday parade for Betsy takes place at 4 p.m. Feb. 8. Participants should gather in the parking lot of Trinity Church, 61770 Miami Road. The church is south of Southfield Village, 6450 Miami Circle. Be there by 3:30. Signs and decorations will be appreciated. More information can be found at historymuseumsb.org or on the museum’s social media.
• A video of birthday greetings is being assembled by The History Museum to present to Betsy and to share on the museum’s media pages. Interested individuals can email a two-minute or shorter video of birthday wishes or picture of themselves with Betsy to [email protected] by Monday. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich When it comes to Grand Rapids sports legends, Joyce Hill Westerman may not be the first name that comes to mind. After all, her only season with the Grand Rapids Chicks was her rookie year, a year in which she only had 18 at bats over nine games. 
But the 1945 season Westerman spent in Grand Rapids was historic for the city. The Chicks franchise had just moved from Milwaukee, where the team struggled to compete for fans with the Brewers, which at the time was a minor league franchise. ....
