Bengaluru, Apr 17: Even as the tussle between the Karnataka government and striking workers of the state road transport corporations (RTC) led to the death of a driver who had reported to work, Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi held the agitators responsible for the unfortunate incident. 
Rabeed Rasool Avati, a driver working with the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) succumbed to his injuries after stones were pelted at the bus he was driving on Friday. 
Mr. Avati, 56, was taking the bus on the Vijayapura-Jamkhandi route when unidentified persons pelted stones at the windshield. The broken pieces of glass caused a gash on the driver’s neck. Mr. Avati, who was bleeding heavily, was immediately rushed to Jamkhandi Taluk Hospital, but could not be saved. ....

Bengaluru, Apr 17: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday said that he had tested positive for Covid-19 after having spent days campaigning in the Basavakalayan assembly constituency for a bypoll. 
“I request everyone who came in close contact with me over the last few days to isolate themselves and get tested,” Kumaraswamy, 61, said in a tweet. 
According to a statement from his spokesperson, Kumaraswamy did not find a bed for treatment at Manipal Hospital. Even Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar’s intervention did not help, the statement claimed, adding that Kumaraswamy managed to find a bed at another private hospital. ....

Mangaluru, Apr 16:  Karnataka Minister for Fisheries S Angara has assured to draw the attention of the Chief Minister towards the problems faced by the fishermen due to non-release of diesel subsidy and get the pending Rs 45 crore subsidy released at the earliest.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting the old fisheries port and meeting fishermen leaders here on Friday.
He said that he has also spoken to the fishermen leaders on the works relating to the extension of a third jetty at the port.
On the opposition to the Coastal Berth project at Bengre, he said the pros and cons of the project must be discussed and all locals must be taken into confidence. ....

Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s indefinite strike entered the tenth day on Friday, continuing to affect bus services across the state.
The employees of four road transport corporations in Karnataka had started the strike on April 7 due to a stalemate with the government over the wage-related issue. Notably, employees seek wages as per the 6th Pay Commission. However, the government has clarified that it was not possible to implement the sixth pay commission for the RTC employees. ....
