SRINAGAR: Despite the assurance of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital that the facility has sufficient oxygen supply in its six plants, relatives of the Covid patients are in panic. Relatives of Covid patients at Srinagar’s main hospital on Saturday even started a mini brawl over possession of oxygen cylinders, which were coming in from various private units. “Every attendant wanted to acquire as many cylinders as possible for their respective Covid patients admitted to the hospital and almost came to blows over the matter,” one witness said. Dr Kanwaljeet Singh, medical superintendent of SMHS hospital, said the facility has sufficient oxygen for all its Covid patients and that they only acquire some cylinders from private units as back-up. ....
Attendants Fight Over Oxygen Cylinder Distribution At SMHS SRINAGAR: Scuffle broke out between the attendants at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital on Saturday when they were distributing the oxygen cylinders themselves in the absence of proper arrangements by the authorities. Official sources informed that no security arrangements have been put in place for the distribution of oxygen cylinders among the attendants for their patients. A video has went viral on social media, in which the attendants could be seen fighting over the distribution of the oxygen cylinders. Medical Superintendent SMHS Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh could not be contacted for comments as he didn’t respond to repeated phone calls. ....

Kashmir was able to acquire some of the units amid the surging coronavirus cases, while the supply order in Jammu got delayed till May 7 owing to the failure of the commencement of the contract with their supplier. The newspaper quoted an official saying: “Of the 37 oxygen plants required for Kashmir, we have so far acquired 20 units, but could only install 17 here as three were installed in Jammu.” ....
