Wisteria is a genus of flowering plants in the legume family, Fabaceae (Leguminosae), that includes ten species of woody climbing bines (twining vines) that are native to China, Korea, Japan, Mediterranean countries and the Eastern United States.
Some species are popular ornamental plants. An aquatic flowering plant with the common name wisteria or ‘water wisteria’ is in fact Hygrophila difformis, in the family Acanthaceae.

Woman gets probation for unlawful sale of pangolin scales

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) A woman who illegally imported pangolin scales and sold them to an undercover officer from her Southeast Portland store was sentenced Monday to three years of federal probation.
Agnes Yu, 53, who has owned Wing Ming Herbs with her husband for about 20 years, said the scales are believed to have medicinal properties and used to help promote the production of breast milk.
Yu admitted to ordering the scales from an importer in San Francisco and selling 30 grams of the scales to the officer for $165 in 2017, according to a prosecutor. ....

Kildare farmer fined €2,500 for illegal destruction of vegetation


The farmer was charged with two offences under the Wildlife Act.
A Kildare farmer was ordered to pay over €2,500 for the destruction of vegetation on uncultivated land during bird nesting season earlier this month.
On Monday 1 March, Robert Conlon, Athgarvan, Co Kildare, appeared before Naas District Court charged with two offences under the Wildlife Acts, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage said in a statement.
The case was taken on behalf by the National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Both offences occurred on 15 July 2019 at Dunmurry, Co Kildare.
The first charge relates to Section 40 of the Wildlife Acts, which makes it an offence to destroy vegetation on uncultivated land during the bird nesting season, which runs from 1 March to 31 August each year. ....
