Anup Chandra Pandey, a former IAS official from Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed Election Commissioner.
Pandey served as the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh under CM Yogi Adityanath until retiring from the civil services in August 2019.
Next year, the Election Commission will supervise key assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, and Uttarakhand.
New Delhi: Anup Chandra Pandey, a retired IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was named Election Commissioner by the Union cabinet on Tuesday (June 8th).
Pandey has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of outgoing Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on April 12. This brings the three-member commission back to full size, and it will now monitor the key assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, and Uttarakhand that will take place next year.

Retired IAS officer and former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Anup Chandra Pandey took charge as the new Election Commissioner of India on Wednesday after being appointed for the post by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Pandey will now be in the three-member panel of the Election Commission which was vacant after former Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora s retirement on April 12.
