Rye community members seek to preemptively save Tiki Bar near Playland News 12 Staff Updated on:Apr 22, 2021, 8:40pm EDT Members of the Rye community say they are concerned about the future of the Tiki Bar near Playland. People who spoke with News 12 say they fear that Standard Amusements, which starts managing Playland in 2023, will demolish and remodel Charley s Pier Restaurant and Tiki Bar. They say it has been a fun, simple staple in Rye for decades and they do not want to see major developments there. Standard Amusements currently has not made any plans, but neighbors say they want some assurances that if there are changes, they will be minimal. ....
4:38 The Westchester County Board of Legislators has approved a bankruptcy court settlement regarding the management of Playland. Legislators who support the revised agreement say it not only leaves the county amusement park in Westchester’s hands, but improves county controls and financial terms. The approved agreement will replace a 2016 agreement reached under then Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. Westchester Budget and Appropriations Chair Democrat Catherine Borgia: “This is not a situation where we’re deciding for the first time what to do with Playland,” Borgia says. “This is a, is this contract better than the contract negotiated by the Astorino administration.” ....

The County Board of Legislators voted 13 to 4 in favor of an amended deal with Standard Amusements, a private company that will begin managing the park next year. This comes after a long legal battle between the county and Standard Amusements over the original contract signed with former County Executive Rob Astorino. County Executive Latimer says this new contract makes it clearer what roles the county and Standard Amusements will have. It also says Standard Amusements must invest $27 million in physical improvements. ....
